THE MERCHANT OF VENICE by William Shakespeare

-

Set in the city banking sector during the current debt crisis the Rose will open the 2012 season with a modern dress production of William Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice. Love is caught up in a whirlwind of market forces in this dark comedy set in the world of high finance. The quality of mercy is not strained but put to the test when beloved Antonio loses his fortune and Shylock demands his bond. A pound of flesh will be the price to pay the debt between these hated rivals. Think of Oliver Stone’s Wall Street with slick suits and razor sharp dialogue.
All performances at 7.30 pm (Sundays 3.00 pm only)
No Monday Performances

There will be a Question and Answer session with the actors, director and production staff each Tuesday directly after the performance. All patrons are welcome to stay for the Q+A which will last about 20 minutes
