A Blue Plaque for the Rose

The Rose was awarded a coveted blue plaque by the Borough of Southwark in the autumn of last year. On 12th January 2006 Sir Ian McKellen unveiled the plaque and for the first time in a decade or more the site of the Rose could easily be identified and visitors no longer had a search to find it. The Rose Theatre Trust is indebted to the Borough of Southwark who organised the award and to the many people of Southwark who voted for the Rose. Sir Ian McKellen played a leading role during the Blue Plaque Campaign and it was fitting that he should perform the unveiling ceremony as a long time supporter of the Rose being as he was a member of the original 'Save the Rose' campaign.
