The Rose at The Rose

27th July 2007

A large scale model of the Rose Theatre as it might have been in 1587 is now part of the Rose Exhibition, literally taking centre stage.

At 1:50 scale the Rose Theatre model is a large one, showing the complete site including Cholmley's victualling house - forerunner of the theatre bar, Park Street or Maiden Lane as it was then, Rose Alley, the drainage ditches, bridges and the vegetation which surrounded the Rose when it was built in 1587. The model makes an important contribution to the site, helping to bring alive the archaeology in a most effective way.

The Rose Theatre Trust is extremely grateful to Roger Pattenden of Heritage Models for letting us have his special creation on permanent loan at the site.

Heritage Models do a much smaller version of the model in build-it-yourself kit form. It can be purchased from the Rose Theatre Trust for £8.50 to include packing and postage. Send your application to: Rose Theatre Trust, 21, New Globe Walk, London SE1 9DT, together with a cheque or postal order. Please allow three weeks delivery time.

More photos of the unveiling ceremony are available in the Photo Gallery.
